Today, most of this job is done online. But you may still want to consider an in-person visit. This can be facilitated at least once a month. A physical visit just makes the work foolproof.

You must hire a bookkeeper who is aware of accountability measures and is willing to comply with them. Some of the measures include regularity of bookkeeping reviews, using project management software and also an authorization for certain bookkeeping assignments beforehand. You may also consider asking them for references who can testify for their quality of deliverables.

Once the bookkeeper provides references, you may call them with your questions and concerns. One of the main questions is always about the fees. The normal industry payment for a bookkeeper ranges from anything between $10 per hour for basic data entry jobs to $75 for senior bookkeepers.

For detailed work it is advisable to hire seniors and not the ones who are just starting off. If a bookkeeper is also an accountant then they might charge somewhere around $150 per hour.
